Talcen Foel,
Uwchmynydd, Aberdaron
|
It would be hard to find a more away-from-it-all spot than this old Welsh
farmstead cottage. It is in the hamlet of Uwchmynydd, below the summit of Mount
Anelog, at the western tip of the Llyn Peninsula. After a scenic drive along
seventeen miles of country lanes from Pwllheli, we eventually find it up a gated
track which climbs around a hillside bordered by heather and gorse, before
ending along the edge of a field.

 |
In ten acres of pasture, it's a fine comfortable cottage sleeping 2-4, with
wonderful sea and mountain views. On a clear day the Irish coast and Wicklow
hills beyond are clearly visible and also the Mid-Wales coast. Inside, the
interior has been sympathetically rebuilt and modernised, while retaining its
original character.

 |
To make the most of the views, the spacious lounge -
originally a cowshed - has windows on three sides, but is kept cosy in cooler
weather by a wood-burner in an attractive fireplace. Up a couple of steps you
reach the kitchen / dining room which has a flagstone floor and large inglenook
with an oil fired range.
|
 |
The fully fitted galley kitchen area includes a microwave and washing
machine. Both bedrooms, a double and a twin, are at the front and the double
offers sea views from the comfort of its bed.
|
 |
Above the
kitchen / dining room, an open 'crog loft den' on a balcony reached by a wooden
ladder provides huge fun for children to hide away and play in.
|
 |
The cottage is on the Pilgrim's Way Coastal Path, two miles from the sea-side
village of Aberdaron (shops, pub and beach).
Available July-August, first week of September, Christmas and New Year. Ideal
for honeymooners, stressed out couples, walkers and bird-watchers.
